Theology of the Body

Blessed Sacrament school believes strongly that in today’s moral environment young Catholic children have to be specifically taught to overcome the negative values that the mainstream culture inflicts on us all.  Our beloved John Paul II (as well as our current great Pope Benedict XVI, have laid out a compelling path to counteracting these influences with a message of love and beauty in a very personal, understandable level (merging  Church teachings with daily live:  Theology of the Body and Deus Caritas Est).  Teaching values (especially the virtues of prudence, temperance, justice, and fortitude) is first and foremost the job of parents.

To assist parents in teaching their children the Gospel of Life in today’s environment, Blessed Sacrament has partly adopted the old Genesis curriculum.  Designed to be completed in the context of the family, the Genesis curriculum provides a framework and many opportunities for parents to work closely with their children in establishing the moral underpinnings (theologically and practically) to enable their children to form a Catholic conscience.

In 2007/08, Blessed Sacrament School will continue teaching the genesis curriculum and try to incorporate theology of the body teachings into learning opportunities made possible through our Three R program.  Monsignor Conley (and those he delegates to) are working on a way to bring back the workshop and parent/child opportunities that needed some updating from what they were in the old Genesis format.
