Devotions and Celebrations

The school day begins and ends with class prayers appropriate to each grade level. Emphasis is placed on how and why we pray (in the fourth section of the Catholic Catechism). In conjunction with the daily religion classes, devotions proper to the liturgical seasons and feasts of the Church are emphasized. Small group celebrations may be planned on these and other occasions. Liturgical preparation and participation are key ingredients to a vibrant and effective Catholic community. Blessed Sacrament takes every opportunity to develop student leadership in liturgies and para liturgies through student special ministries (cantoring, lectoring, gift bearing, prayer leading). Attaining a level of worship that is reverent, heart-felt, and inspiring is vital to the goals for Catholicity that Blessed Sacrament School upholds.

Student volunteers participate in daily Mass by ushering, cantoring, lecturing, reading petitions, offering of gifts and participating in choir. A large group of Altar Servers continues to assist our priests at all daily Masses, both weekday and weekend. Eighth graders act as substitutes for vacant hours in the chapel for Perpetual Adoration.

Each year the school addresses a central area of the catechism to ensure that Christ is the root of every interaction and activity at the school. Examples are the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, the Apostolic Creed and the value of faith. The entire School attends Stations of the Cross on Friday's during Lent. A special cermony for May Crowning as well as Spanish Masses.
