Time, Talent & Treasure

Discipleship is a total commitment made at baptism. Stewardship is also a commitment we have made to the Lord in which we offer to Him our time, talent and treasure. We must show or commitment to discipleship by doing the will of the Father in our day-to-day actions, or in other words a life of stewardship, for stewardship is just another way of stating we strive to be true Disciples of Christ.
The TIME we give back to God is the greatest of the three elements of stewardship. Disciples must learn from their Lord by spending time with him. The foundation of stewardship is the Eucharist. Stewardship only bears fruit because of the time we give in prayer to our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Of course, this begins with our participation at Mass, not just on Sunday but also finding time during the week to be fed by Christ. When we spend time in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament , we find a quiet haven from the busyness of the world.
Our time should also be spent in learning about our awesome Catholic faith, taking advantage of opportunities offered by parish programs throughout the diocese. Without knowledge of our faith, we cannot love and serve God.
The aspect of TALENT is giving back a portion of the gifts God has blessed us with. If the time we spend in prayer is our foundation, then the talents we use are the visible actions we build upon. Our talents may be used in many ways that can be helpful to the parish, one must simply be willing to volunteer and commit. To have a thriving parish, many needs and activities have to be fulfilled by the members. Our talents have to be put to use for the glory of God and the good of the church community, by volunteering in parish activities and diocesan events.
Our TREASURE is the last component of stewardship, and compared to the other tow, it is the least important. This is not to say money is not necessary, our parishes exist in a world where bills need to be paid. As we provide for the needs of our family, we too should provide for the needs of our parish family. As we commit time and talent to the Lord, let us not hold back, but rather show our discipleship and give Christ a portion of our possessions as a sign of our total giving of ourselves to him.
May we continue to strive to become better stewards committed to the Lord so that our actions and our sacrifices may show forth the words of Joshua’s commitment,
"As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's grace." 1 Peter 4:8-10
As Christians we are called to discipleship. Discipleship begins with the call to follow Jesus and imitate His way of life as did the apostles. Our parishioners carry on the work of Christ through their dedication and service within our family, our parish and our wider universal community. Our Parish offers many opportunities to share our gifts of time and talent. To review our organizations, activities, or ministries, click here.
