Calendar of Traditions at Blessed Sacrament Parish

Year-Round

Coffee and Doughnuts – Coffee, juice, doughnuts, and bagels are served most Sunday’s after the 7:00 and 9:00 Masses.  Follow the fresh-brewed aroma downstairs to Bishops Hall (directly below the church).  Everyone is welcome!

January/February

Pancake & Sausage Breakfast – The men of Men’s Club and the Boy Scouts prepare and serve a delicious breakfast on this winter Sunday. – (Fundraiser)

CYO Dinner, Musical Revues and Auction – The Catholic Youth Organization of the parish hosts a delightful dinner and a most entertaining show followed by a servant auction.  The high school CYO members are auctioned in groups to provide services such as yard work, babysitting, etc. – (Fundraiser)

Past Presidents’ Dinner – There are several General Meetings of the Altar Society throughout the year which includes a program and a meal.  This special meeting carries on the tradition of honoring the women who have led the Society that provides for the needs of the Blessed Sacrament altar.

March/April

Easter Vigil Mass and Reception – On Easter Eve the Saturday Mass begins in solemn darkness marking the end of Lent. The anticipation of the Resurrection builds as candles are lighted, and inspiring music ascends.  The RCIA Candidates and Catechumens are received fully into the Church at this Mass, which is followed by a reception to welcome them.

Easter Card Party – This event is held on the Monday afternoon and evening following Easter Sunday.  Guests play cards and games of their choice.  Door prizes and refreshments crown this event. – (Fundraiser)

Spring Fling – The Spring Fling provides an opportunity for adults to socialize with one another on a Saturday evening in a casual setting and is highlighted with food, beverage, and music.

May/June

Mother-Daughter Breakfast – This time honored tradition takes place on the Sunday prior to Mother’s Day and includes a May-crowning procession by the children.  All women of the parish and their guests are welcome.

Parish Golf Tournament (Spring) – The Men’s Club sponsors the tournaments which are held twice a year.  Any parishioner who would like to play is welcome.

Parish Picnic – The Parish family picnic is held traditionally on the Feast of Corpus Christi, Blessed Sacrament’s Feast Day.  The Altar Society and Men’s Club jointly organize a day of games, contests, festivities, and dinner.

July/August

Father/Daughter/Son Communion Breakfast – Sometimes held more than once a year, this special meal takes place after 7:00 a.m. Mass on Sundays.  Fathers and their sons and daughters gather at a designated restaurant; a featured speaker from the diocese presents a program.

September/October

Parish Golf Tournament (Fall) – The Men’s Club sponsors the tournaments which are held twice a year.  Any parishioner who would like to play is welcome.

Stewardship Fair – The Fair takes place after all Masses during the established weekend and provides parishioners with an opportunity to meet representatives of the many groups and ministries at the parish as well as from the wider community.  No “fair” would be complete without prizes and tasty fare and our Stewardship Fair is no exception.

Oktoberfest – This is a fest for the parishioners that includes the elements of a traditional Oktoberfest:  German dinner, beer, music, and frivolity.

November/December

Festival of Angels – Once known as the parish’s annual bazaar, the Festival is one of the parish’s main fundraiser's.  While it is coordinated by the women of the Altar Society, all men, women and children of the parish get involved in transforming our facility to host vendors and buyers.  A diner features a delightful menu for lunch and refreshments throughout this Saturday event in November. Advent Angels – This fun tradition allows families to enjoy the spirit of the season by bestowing and receiving simple gifts once a week during Advent.  The delight in learning the identity of your benefactor and revealing yourself occurs after the fourth Sunday of Advent.

Men’s Club Christmas Dinner – The men plan and coordinate dinner for the adults.  The location and entertainment for the evening vary from year to year.

Holiday Home Tour – A newer tradition of the parish, the home tour provides a fun and unique setting for social gathering.  A few of the parishioner’s homes are decorated lavishly for the season.  The Friday evening tours are for fellow parishioners and include delectable refreshments.  The home are open to the public on Saturday.  (Fundraiser)
